Reviewing the #6 Pizzeria in the World: Seu Pizza Illuminati

Luca and I have made a hobby out of visiting the top-ranked pizzerias in the world. We are lucky enough to have been to New York, Naples, and Rome together which all have at least one pizzeria on the top 50 list. We recently moved to Rome and were pleasantly surprised to find out that the #6 pizzeria in the world, Seu Pizza Illuminati, was only a 15-minute walk away from us.

The Menus

The Classic

This place is serving Neapolitan-style pizza from two different menus, the Classics and a Seasonal. As expected, the classic features more typical pies ranging from Margherita to Ham and Mushrooms, but can still change seasonally to accommodate fresh produce. Check out the full menu below

The Seasonal

This menu is always changing and aims to highlight the creativity of the chef as well as the most seasonal produce. It will be different every time you try it so you will need to check their website for the most up to date one! When I came I opted for one pizza off of their classic menu and one from their seasonal.

Tasting the #6 Pizzeria in the World

We started off with the Polpo, or Octopus, Pizza from their seasonal summer 2024 menu. The description was certainly strange but both Luca and I love octopus so we figured we would give it a try.

OCTOPUS, CHERRIES, AND CRUSCO FLAKED PEPPERS €18

Slow-cooked octopus, cow’s milk stracciatella, crispy flaked pepper, cherry
mayo, cherries, coral mizuna

We went into this pizza with no expectations. I mean with a description like that, who would?

First and foremost is the flop test, which I am happy to report this pizza passed. The crust was perfectly thin and crunchy which made the overall bite great.

Now on to the toppings… I’m sorry to report I did not enjoy this pizza. The octopus was overcooked so it was chewy and smelled quite fishy. The quality was certainly not what I expected from the #6 Pizzeria in the world.

The cherry mayo was mild in flavor to me, but Luca said for his palate it overpowered the rest of the pizza. Overall not a good bite.

SAUSAGE AND BROCCOLI €13

Mozzarella, sautéed broccolini, sausage

This pizza also passed the flop test! With more subtle toppings we got to appreciate how delicious the flavor of the dough was. Just this dough alone warrants their position as #6 pizzeria in the world. It was so delicious.

The toppings were also fantastic, the broccolini was perfectly cooked and slightly bitter which contrasted well with the savoriness and slight sweetness of the sausage. You can taste how high quality these ingredients are. This pizza saved the experience for us.

Overall I think the classic pizzas are amazing, but maybe the seasonal ones are a hit or miss. If you’re looking for a safe bet go for the classic options, but if you’re feeling fun and risky try something new! I can’t wait to go back and try a new combination of classic flavors and their fall seasonal menu!
