I have been waiting weeks to post this review because I knew I was going to keep going back. I first went with Luca and got a lighter lunch of a tagliere ( cold cuts) and a salad, but I knew I needed to go back and try the pasta. Well, I was right because as soon as I tried their carbonara I was back for it again the following week. I’ve never been a huge fan of carbonara so going back to a restaurant to order it again is a huge deal for me. An even bigger deal? It was just as good the second time. This is one of the best restaurants in Rome, and should be on your list when you visit ( or just live here).
Starters
When dining in Rome I count drinks as an appetizer. This place has gotten so popular and is always full but their Aperol spritzes remain at $5. The first time I saw that price I nearly cried. It’s practically impossible to find a $5 spritz at a restaurant nowadays.
Food-wise I tried their classic tagliere and it was pretty good! I will say I enjoy my meats cut very thin so if you prefer them that way as well I would ask for thinly sliced. Otherwise, all the flavors paired perfectly together and it was actually a lot of food for the price. It came with a side of bread as well.
Their salads are really big and very moderately priced as well. We opted for one with shaved Parmesan, prosciutto, walnuts, and mushrooms. It was great but just keep in mind the only dressing in Italy is olive oil and balsamic.
Mains
This is the star of the show. What we’ve all been waiting for.
Da Vittorio served up the core four traditional Roman pasta dishes: Carbonara, Amatriciana, Gricia, and Cacio e Pepe. A Gricia, which you may be unfamiliar with is pasta with parmesan and guanciale. I’ve gotten the carbonara both times but tried my friends Gricia and Cacio e Pepe, both of which were fantastic. This place just does not miss with the pasta. It’s thick, perfectly al dente, and super creamy. If you come here, please, for the love of food, GET THE PASTA!
As I mentioned this place is always packed so definitely reserve a spot ahead of time. It’s one of the best restaurants in Rome ~ in my opinion~ so if you’re in town I would recommend giving it a try. It’s in the heart of one of the most trendy and bustling neighborhoods, in Rome, Trastevere. This neighborhood is also great for grabbing drinks or going out so its a great place to have dinner to be close to the action.
One of my highest rankings so far does not come lightly. After 3 visits I can confidently say this is one of my favorite restaurants, period. Let me know if you give this place a try!
