Lo Guarracino
Total Rating: 8.05/10
There’s a reason I can’t stop going back to this gem of a restaurant. It simply never misses! I always leave here happy, full, and maybe a little drunk- the Italian dining trifecta.
This beautiful restaurant is located on the walkway between the two public beaches of Positano: Spiaggia Grande, and Fornillo. The perfect reservation time here is between 6:45 and 7:15 pm so you’ll have a beautiful backdrop of the sunset across the Tyrrhenian sea as you enjoy your dinner. I would recommend asking for the garden room.
The quality of these pictures should tell you how great the food is, I just couldn’t wait to dig in.
Starters:
The most notable starter here is their pizza. You truly cannot go wrong and every time I am amazed by their airy, crispy crust and perfectly balanced toppings.
The pizza below was one of their specials with mozzarella, diced tomatoes in spicy oil, and basil. I’ve also tried their margarita and seasonal lemon pizza. Regardless of the topping, their pizza dough is my favorite in all of Positano. It’s perfectly light and airy while holding its structure. It doesn’t have the soggy middle that can happen with some Napolitan-style pies. Get this as a starter and you won’t have any regrets.
Trying fried baby squid is a must while in Positano- it’s caught locally so it’s extra fresh. Here the portion was quite large and while it was good it wasn’t great. The squeeze of fresh lemon was great but it needed a bit more salt and was a little greasy. I would try this at another restaurant.
Mains:
If you’re a group of three or more I would recommend getting the local catch of the day. If you ask you’ll be able to see the fish and select the one you want. They can cook it however you want but I always went for the grilled. It’s succulent and cooked to perfection. They bring out the whole cooked fish to clean and portion it in front of the table. You can always taste how fresh the fish is, and I’ve gotten this option on 3 separate occasions with the same great quality.
Their pasta options are also fantastic. I love seafood and always gravitate to the pasta options. They have a great scialatielli frutti di mare dish which is made with a thicker fresh pasta in a tomato-based sauce sauteed with clams, mussels, shrimp, and other fish. Their spaghetti alla volgole, or spaghetti with clams, has a great sauce and plenty of clams so it’s a solid option as well. In Positano, I typically only order the spaghetti with clams if the total One of my friends ordered the gnocchi alla sorrentina and when I tried it I loved it. Their gnocchi is fresh and cooked to the perfect al dente.
Sides:
Their sides are pretty standard but accompany the meal well. Their grilled veggies are reasonably priced and always taste good. In this region of Italy, their grilled veggies are marinated in olive oil, vinegar, and herbs after cooking and are served cold. I will mention the potatoes that came with the whole fish we ordered were really nothing special.
Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Positano that I keep going back to time and time again. Every time I go here for dinner I leave full and happy! Let me know if you give it a try.
